KORN: AOL's 'Acoustic Sessions' Performance Available Online
April 28, 2006After 13 years of multi-platinum albums, sharing the stage with fellow rock titans from OZZY OSBOURNE to LINKIN PARK, hosting a Friday the 13th party at Hollywood cemetary, and even giving voice to their own South Park characters, KORN have done it all, right? Well, no, actually. Until today, they had never played acoustic.
"We came in here two hours early, worked the songs out, and just went with it," says singer Jonathan Davis, proudly sporting an Ozzy T-shirt in a Burbank, California, soundstage. The decor suits the band's goth sensibility: burgundy walls, chandeliers and candels.
The performance — which includes "Coming Undone" and "Twisted Transistor" from the recent "See You on the Other Side" album, as well as old favorites "Thoughtless" and "Falling Away From Me" — takes a few tries to mesh. Once it does though, KORN — backed by guest musicians donning ominous animal masks — sound like seasoned veterans. They display Middle Eastern influences, a hint of "Unledded"-era Jimmy Page and Robert Plant (Davis' favorite vocalist),and, of course, the trademark KORN intensity.
